Shilling

Aggressively promoting a coin to others, frequently for personal gain and often without disclosing the payment.

A shill talks up an asset to pump interest, usually because they already hold it or are being paid to push it. Paid influencer shilling is common, and undisclosed promotion can break advertising and securities law.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has fined celebrities for touting tokens without revealing they were compensated — Kim Kardashian paid $1.26 million in 2022 over an EthereumMax post. When someone only ever talks about one coin, assume they have a position in it.
