Bitcoin Pizza

The first known real-world Bitcoin purchase: 10,000 BTC for two pizzas on May 22, 2010.

Programmer Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 bitcoin to have two Papa John's pizzas delivered, arranged through a forum user who ordered them for him. At the time the coins were worth about 41 dollars.

The trade is now crypto folklore, celebrated every May 22 as Bitcoin Pizza Day. At later peaks those 10,000 coins were worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Hanyecz has said he has no regrets; someone had to prove the money actually worked.
