Decentralization

Spreading control and data across many independent participants so no single party can dictate or shut things down.

Decentralization means no one entity is in charge. Thousands of nodes hold the ledger and validate transactions, so there's no central server to hack, censor, or switch off. That resilience is the core pitch of crypto.

In practice it's a spectrum, not a switch. A chain can be decentralized in node count but concentrated in mining pools, token holdings, or developer control. Honest projects get scrutinized on all of these, not just one.
