XRP Is the Only Altcoin to Hold Crypto's Top 10 for 13 Years
CoinGecko found XRP is the only crypto besides Bitcoin to hold a top-10 spot every year since 2014, a 13-year streak no other altcoin matches.
XRP has spent 13 consecutive years inside crypto's top 10 by market cap, a run matched by exactly one other asset: Bitcoin. That is the finding of a CoinGecko study that combed annual market-cap snapshots from 2014 through 2026. Every coin that ever cracked the top tier has, at some point, dropped out of it. Ripple's cross-border token never has.
The graveyard of former giants
The market of 2014 barely resembles today's. Hundreds of projects have cycled through the spotlight and back out. Names that once traded like blue chips (Litecoin, EOS, Dash, Namecoin, Peercoin) all logged stretches near the top before sliding into the mid-caps and out of the conversation. XRP is the rare one that never gave up its seat, holding a top-10 slot in every single yearly snapshot the report examined.
What makes the streak strange is the wreckage it survived. XRP held rank through the brutal 2018 bear market and the COVID crash of 2020. It held through Terra's implosion and the FTX bankruptcy, events that erased far younger competitors overnight. Entire cohorts of top-10 coins came and went around it.
Longevity is not the same as performance, and the two should not be confused. A coin can keep a top-10 rank while badly trailing the assets beside it. What the streak actually measures is staying power: enough entrenched liquidity, exchange support, and holder base to keep XRP relevant through cycle after cycle.
Surviving the SEC
The real stress test was regulatory. When the SEC opened its case against Ripple, XRP was delisted from a long list of exchanges and sold off immediately. Access shrank. Liquidity thinned. The token stayed in the top 10 through all of it.
By CoinGecko's math the streak stands at 13 years, and unless 2026 brings a major collapse, it will soon extend to 14. The price chart tells a rougher story. XRP set an all-time high of $3.65 last July. One year on from that peak, it has fallen roughly 70%.

At $1.09, XRP is going nowhere fast. It is down 0.4% on the day and up 0.9% on the week, the kind of flat tape that reads as indecision rather than direction. The 30-day picture is softer, a 5.4% decline, against a market cap of $68.03B.
Volume backs up the quiet: $814.9M changed hands over 24 hours, modest for a coin this size. On these numbers the move is drift. A decisive break in either direction would need conviction the tape is not currently showing.
